Pitched roofing and leadwork in Richmond
This Richmond porch roof needed careful reinforcement and traditional detailing so the finished roof would suit the property while improving the strength of the build-up beneath the tiles.
Surrey Roofing & Windows Ltd reinforced the roof structure with C24 timbers, added Celotex insulation, fitted a Cromar Pro Vent 3 membrane and completed the clay tile finish with treated battens, clay bonnets and Code 4 lead flashings.

The Project Brief
The porch roof required more than a cosmetic tile change. The timber structure needed reinforcement and the junctions to the brickwork had to be detailed properly to keep the roof watertight.
Because porch roofs are compact and highly visible, small detailing errors stand out. The tile alignment, bonnet work and lead flashings all needed to be neat as well as durable.
Work Completed
- Reinforced the porch roof using C24 timbers.
- Installed Celotex insulation within the new build-up.
- Fitted Cromar Pro Vent 3 breathable membrane.
- Installed treated battens ready for the clay tile finish.
- Laid rosemary red clay tiles with matching clay bonnets.
- Formed Code 4 lead flashings at the wall abutments.
- Detailed the eaves and edges for a clean traditional finish.

Finished Result
The finished porch roof keeps a traditional clay tile appearance while improving the strength, insulation and weatherproofing of the roof build-up. The clay bonnets and Code 4 lead flashings give the small roof the sort of detailing that matters on a visible entrance feature.
